The Foundation was formed in 1991 to enhance the educational opportunities of our students by providing access to additional learning resources.

“The mission of the Chassell Township Public School Foundation is to provide special and unusual academic opportunities for the children of Chassell Township. Working with the local school system, the Foundation will support an educational climate that will encourage students toward personal excellence.”

At the July, 2009, meeting of the Foundation Board, we reviewed the past year’s finances and funded multiple projects totaling approximately $14,000. Our largest projects were for replacement tabletops for the science lab, a planer for the shop, and a chalkboard-drafting machine. We also funded requests for elementary chairs, a scanner for yearbook class, third grade history books, and several smaller projects. The Board discussed whether replacement of tabletops and chairs fell under the purview of the Foundation’s mission, but given the current economic budget reality and the real concerns we had about the furniture, we felt that it was a worthy cause. We were able to tour the science lab and view for ourselves the timeworn desks and potentially unsafe lab chairs used previously by the vast majority of the readers of this letter. If you carved your initials in one of the tables in 1972, your memory lives on.

Chassell School’s small size allows greater attention to be paid to students and allows for greater flexibility in accommodating student needs. But, because Chassell is so small, the costs of educating students cannot easily be borne only by the community. Just as the cost of raising a child to age 18 has risen, it has gotten progressively more expensive to educate them.

Foundation gifts are always welcome and no donation is too large or too small. The Foundation is a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, which means that all gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible. Other support sources for the Foundation include corporate matches and estate bequests from alumni and friends who remember the school in their will.
